Fire Officials: Overdose Reversal Drug Used At Scene Of Marlborough Baby's Death

MARLBOROUGH (CBS) -- Investigators are still searching for answers after a baby was found dead and two adults were unresponsive in a Marlborough home, but firefighters say there was reason to suspect an opioid overdose.

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office has not confirmed drugs were involved in the infant's death at 43 Harrison Place, but firefighters say Naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal drug, was used at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to the home on Thursday for reports of a 23-year-old man, 19-year-old woman and baby unconscious.

A neighbor witnessed the moment emergency crews arrived. A woman who officials believe to be the baby's grandmother ran outside with a bundle in her arms, the neighbor says.

"She kept saying, 'My baby. My baby. I don't know what happened.' And the ambulance took the baby," Lisa Sowden said.

Cell phone video shows a young woman being wheeled out of the home after the baby was taken. Neighbors say she is the baby's mother. Then, police took a man out of the home in handcuffs.

"He was walking out and the older woman walked up to him and said, 'What did you do to my daughter? What did you do to my daughter?'" Sowden said. "He wasn't responding. He was just walking with the officer. And the female was sitting just kind of with her head down."

Sowden said she heard police say "overdose."

On the door of the home where the three were found, a sign says it is a "house protected by angels."

The young woman's cousin told WBZ-TV the incident must have been drug related, but said he never thought the two adults involved used drugs.

"I just know it was an accident. I don't think it was anything intentional," he said.

The man and woman taken from the home were brought to the hospital.

Neighbors say the young woman was very excited about her new baby.

"It's pretty sad because, again, we know they were happy about this baby," Erika Benites said "So it's pretty sad that a little baby died."

The baby's death shook the typically quiet neighborhood.

"It's a small dead end street, so to hear that, it's just shocking," Jasmine Benites said.

The District Attorney's Office and State Police are investigating the incident. The District Attorney's Office has not said whether drugs were involved, or if any charges are to come.
