Daylight Saving Time Leads To Rare Set Of Twins

BOSTON (CBS) – A set of twins was born this weekend at a Cape Cod hospital, joining the world only a half hour apart. But thanks to Daylight Saving Time, there's a strange twist for these newborns.

The first baby, named Samuel, arrived at 1:39 a.m., before clocks were turned back at 2 a.m.

His brother Ronan was born 31 minutes later, but because his birth came after the time change his official birth time was 1:10 a.m., not 2:10 a.m.

So to recap, even though Samuel was the first twin born, he's technically younger than his brother.

The boys' parents, Emily and Seth Peterson of West Barnstable, thought the time change would be a factor as they headed to the hospital.

"I said earlier that night that they were either going to be born on two different days or the time change was going to come into play," said Seth, who is trooper with the Massachusetts State Police.

Cape Cod Hospital maternity nurse Deb Totten said this is the first time she has seen such an occurrence in more than 40 years of nursing.
