Transit Police Release Footage Of Masked MBTA Attack Suspect

MATTAPAN (CBS) -- Transit Police released surveillance footage of the man accused of beating a trolley driver while wearing a Halloween mask in hopes of getting the public's help identifying the suspect.

Police released a 16-second video that shows the suspect running from the train after police say he dragged the MBTA trolley driver out of his train and beat him on the platform at the Cedar Grove station on the Mattapan Line around 12:20 a.m. Transit Police are asking anyone with information on the attack to report it to detectives.

The 45-year-old trolley driver told police the suspect boarded the train wearing a costume and mask and told the driver he didn't have fare money. Police say the man then punched the driver in the head and dragged him to the platform where he continued the attack.

Gov. Charlie Baker called the attack senseless and violent in a statement. Transit Police called the beating cowardly.

Anyone with information on the attack should contact Transit Police detectives at 617-222-1050, or text 873873 if you wish to remain anonymous.
