Boomer: The More Brady Gets Hit, The Better He Gets

BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady put together another masterful performance on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo, passing for four touchdowns and 315 yards in New England's 41-25 win over the Bills.

As Boomer Esiason of The NFL Today and WFAN told Toucher & Rich on Monday, it was "another ho-hum win in another ho-hum winning season there in New England."

Brady felt the pressure from Buffalo most of the afternoon, but it didn't seem to faze the 39-year-old quarterback.

"The more he gets hit, the more into the game he becomes. Most quarterbacks would cower in a situation like that, dealing with the noise, the blitzes and the hits, but he gets better," said Boomer. "Maybe it was DeflateGate, maybe it was having four weeks off to start the season, but he doesn't look like he's almost 40 years old. He's running with the football now, reading the defenses almost flawlessly."

When opposing defenses give in and start to blitz Brady, that's when the QB starts to carve them up.

"It's really a pick your poison situation. I'd play with eight men in the secondary and try to frustrate him. Let them go 80 yards, but I'd want them to go 80 yards in nine minutes. You may as well cannibalize yourself and the clock, try to shorten the game by letting them possess the ball but make them go dink-and-dunk, dink-and-dunk. That's the beauty of what Brady is doing right now; he's not only getting big plays but patiently picking teams apart when they do play him that way. I just don't see a team that can go point-for-point with them and consistently to keep them off the board," said Esiason.

When looking around the rest of the AFC, Esiason doesn't think anyone can compete with the 7-1 Patriots at the moment.

"Maybe Denver will, depending on how the teams are [in Week 15]. Denver is pretty impressive at home. The question is, will Trevor Siemian be able to put up 27 points to beat the Patriots," he wondered. "When you really think about it and look at the other quarterbacks in the NFL, they know they'll have to score at least 27 points to win. Who is capable of doing that, and can the other part of the team keep Brady under 27 points?

"I don't see them getting beat all the way to the AFC Championship Game, which will be played in Gillette if everyone stays healthy," added Boomer.

Boomer also touches on Brady's chances at winning the NFL's MVP this season, and whether or not he's ever had a sex toy thrown at him on the field. Listen to the full interview below:
