Dedham Man Accused Of Murdering Father With Knife And Hammer

DEDHAM (CBS) – A Dedham man was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with murdering his father.

Police responded to a Lower East Street home around 2 a.m. and found resident Paul Anderson suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to Norwood Hospital but did not survive.

Alex Anderson, the man's 25-year-old son, was arrested and charged with murder.

Both men lived in the home together.

An autopsy is expected to be performed sometime soon.

Alex Anderson was arraigned Tuesday and ordered held without bail.

Prosecutor Craig Kowalski says said Alex Anderson entered his father's room around 2a.m. while he was in bed, attacked him with a knife.

"At some point he left the room went downstairs and retrieved a hammer from a kitchen drawer and then used the hammer to strike his father's head a number of  times," Kowalski told the court.

Alex Anderson then allegedly called police and confessed to the attack.

Prosecutors say the father took out a restraining order against his son several years ago.

A judge allowed the defense's request to impound the police report until the next court date, which is scheduled for Nov. 28.
