Celtics Go "Sager Strong" At End Of Tuesday's Practice
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Celtics took some time to honor Craig Sager at the end of Tuesday's practice.
The team donned Sager-themed shirts in honor of the longtime TNT broadcaster, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2014. Sager, 65, was still working the sidelines in his famous colorful suits last season, and got to work his first NBA Finals game in June when TNT worked out a deal with ABC. But his battle will keep him from doing what he loves this season, so teams are now honoring him around the league.
The C's put their special shirts on on at the end of Tuesday's practice, and shouted "Sager Strong" together to send their support the broadcaster's way.
The shirt is designed after the suit Sager wore when accepting the Jimmy Valvano Award at last year's ESPY's. On the back, they read, "Time is simply how you live your life."
"The shirts are nice," C's guard Isaiah Thomas said after wearing the shirt during some post-practice shooting. "They look like something he would wear. I wouldn't wear them but I know he would.
"These are Craig Sager," Thomas continued. "A guy that means a lot to this game of basketball. A guy who means a lot to the NBA, the NBA family. We just wish him well and we're praying for him and his family daily."
The shirts can be purchased online, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Sager Strong Foundation.
