Celtics To Open New Training Facility 'The Auerbach Center' In Spring 2018

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Celtics broke ground on their new training facility on Monday, which will carry the name of the franchise's patriarch.

The C's announced that their new state of the art facility, located next to the Bruins' new training facility at Boston Landing, will be named "The Auerbach Center At New Balance World Headquarters."

"We are proud to be in partnership with New Balance and honored that they have agreed to carry forth Red's legacy in the naming of the Auerbach Center at New Balance Headquarters," said Celtic co-owner Wyc Grousbeck. "Red had no peer as an innovator in our sport, and we feel like it is fitting that our partner New Balance will help us continue to be a leading innovator as we pursue Banner 18 and beyond."

The new center will offer Boston's players and coaching staff several new features, including two state-of-the-art parquet floor basketball courts, expanded strength and conditioning, training, and recovery facilities, physical therapy areas with hydrotherapy pools and sports science and nutrition facilities.

The front of the new facility will be all glass, with Boston's 17 championship banners visible to drivers on the Mass Pike. Grousbeck added that there's plenty of room to add more banners to the already expansive collection.

The center is set to open in the spring of 2018 and will replace Healthpoint in Waltham, which has served as the Celtics' practice home since 1999.
