Bruins Injury Update: Subban Called Up As Tuukka Rask Misses Practice

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins have been without Tuukka Rask since after last Thursday's win over the New Jersey Devils, as the goaltender battles what is being termed "general soreness." Rask missed another Bruins practice on Monday morning, leaving his status for Tuesday's tilt against the Minnesota Wild in doubt - and forcing the Bruins to make another move at goalie.

Just days after calling up Providence Bruins goalie Zane McIntyre for emergency purposes, the Bruins have done the same with Malcolm Subban as they called the former first-round pick up from the AHL on an emergency basis on Monday morning. The Bruins re-assigned McIntyre to Providence on Sunday evening.

Anton Khudobin temporarily practiced with the team before leaving early, according to reports from the Warrior Ice Arena. Subban was the only goalie on the ice for the Bruins by the end of the practice session.

If Khudobin suffered an injury or can't go Tuesday night, it appears Subban will be in line to make his second career appearance in an NHL game. Subban's only NHL experience didn't go so well, as the 22-year-old allowed six goals on the road against the St. Louis Blues in 2015.

Although Rask has not been listed as dealing with a specific injury, the Boston Globe's Kevin Paul Dupont said on Monday that it's believed to be a pulled hamstring. Head coach Claude Julien offered no update on Rask as far as his status for Tuesday night, but called the goalie "day-to-day" and said he is not ready to practice. He acknowledged that Khudobin left practice with an injury, but it's too early to determine the nature or severity of it.

In other Bruins injury news, Julien confirmed that defenseman Adam McQuaid has been cleared to play, leaving open the possibility for McQuaid to make his season debut against Minnesota. McQuaid has been dealing with an upper-body injury.

Julien added, however, that much of the roster is "up in the air" for the time being. The coach "distanced himself from any guarantee" that McQuaid would play against Minnesota, according to Matt Kalman.
