Christian Garcia hid behind a courtroom door at his arraignment on Friday. Prosecutors say Garcia, a gang member known as Pumba, came to the neighborhood to fight Wednesday night.
"He was known to be a member of the East Side gang," a prosecutor told the courtroom. "Shortly after a white vehicle pulled up, Pumba exited the vehicle with a hoodie pulled over his head fired into crowd."
"After firing 6 to 8 shots, Pumba returned to the white Infinity and left the scene," the prosecutor said.
Juan Lopez Delgado, 13, says he was watching TV on the third floor of his family's apartment that night when he heard gunshots outside. When he went to check out the commotion he was struck by a bullet.
Delgado arrived home from the hospital Thursday night with the bullet still lodged in his back. According to his family, doctors decided to leave the bullet in his shoulder because it was too deep to be removed safely.
Garcia is being held on $100,000 bail. He is due back in court November 14.
