Marcus Smart To Miss 'A Couple Weeks' With Sprained Ankle
BOSTON (CBS) -- Celtics point guard Marcus Smart suffered a left ankle sprain during Wednesday night's 121-96 preseason loss to the New York Knicks. He is expected to miss at least "a couple weeks" with the injury, according to CSNNE's A. Sherrod Blakely.
Smart suffered the injury during the second quarter of Wednesday's game, stepping on the foot of the Knicks' Justin Holiday on a drive to the basket. After sliding to the floor he quickly got up with the aid of teammates, who helped Smart go straight to the locker room. It's the latest in a long line of ankle injuries for Smart, who reportedly had his ankle taped for the game.
Though the injury does not appear as serious as the previous ankle sprains Smart has suffered in his career, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald tweeted that he left the TD Garden with crutches while wearing a walking boot. He is not expected to play in the season opener at the TD Garden next Wednesday, Oct. 26 against the Brooklyn Nets.
It's unclear whether Smart's injury will have an impact on upcoming personnel decisions for the Celtics, who have to trim the roster down to 15 players by next Monday's deadline.
