Report: Bengals Not Expecting Suspension For Burfict

BOSTON (CBS) -- Vontaze Burfict had a pair of questionable (read: dirty) plays against the Patriots on Sunday, leading many to believe the Cincinnati Bengals linebacker would get hit with a suspension.

That is, unless you're the Bengals. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the team doesn't expect Burfict to be suspended, believing he'll receive no more than a "a slap on the wrist" for his actions.

Suspensions are usually announced by the league no later than close of business on Tuesday, so it appears the linebacker won't be missing any time on the field for his actions on Sunday.

Burfict, a repeat offender who was suspended for the first three games of the regular season, first took a low shot at Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett in the fourth quarter. That incident got both teams fired up, and caused the league to take a second look at the play following the 35-17 New England victory.

But that wasn't the only questionable move by Burfict that the NFL was reviewing from Sunday's game. He also appeared to stomp on Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount after his late-game touchdown run:

Should he only be slapped with a fine, it would be the ninth of Burfict's five-year NFL career.
