Massive Tree Falls On Home, Cars In Wareham

WAREHAM (CBS) - It only took a few seconds for a gigantic tree to come crashing down on a home in Wareham. The maple, which is about 100 years old, was toppled by high winds Sunday night.

Some of it missed the house, but one of the huge trunks came crashing down on the roof punching a hole right in it, all of this while the homeowners were inside.

"All of a sudden we heard this big bang," said Joe Silvia. "I didn't know what it was, whether it was an explosion or what it was. So we both jumped up and then we heard a second one, but this all happened within seconds."

If you take a look inside, you can see heavy damage to a bedroom. One of the limbs coming right through the ceiling, but it doesn't end there.

The family cars were hit as well. One of them was pulverized by the tree. But Cori Fernandes looks on the bright side, even though her home needs some repairs.

"I'm just happy that nobody's hurt. In the big scheme of things the house can be fixed. We're OK so, it will take care of itself. We're fine; we're fine that's the main thing. Material things can be fixed we can't be replaced."
