Report: Blanton, Two Other Bills Fined For Pre-Game Altercation With Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Buffalo Bills may have shut out the Patriots 16-0 at Gillette Stadium last Sunday, but the win did not come without a hit in the wallets. As a result of a pre-game altercation with Patriots players and coaches, three Bills players have been fined for their roles in the incident.
Safety Robert Blanton was fined $21,000 while cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman was fined $10,000, according to John Wawrow of the Associated Press. Safety Aaron Williams was also fined but declined to disclose the amount, reportedly telling Wawrow, "It's up there."
Before the game at Gillette Stadium, Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, both rookies, apparently jogged across the field and interrupted a Bills pre-game drill in the process. After being warned and jogging through the drill a second time, Blanton took exception and shoved Brissett. Mitchell jumped in and shoved Blanton back, at which point Robey-Coleman and Williams got involved, as well as Patriots coaches. Williams repeatedly shoved Patriots receivers coach Chad O'Shea.
Wawrow later tweeted that any fines for the Patriots would be announced tomorrow. Even if the Patriots get off without discipline, the Bills won the game and had the last laugh.
