Ben & Jerry’s Says Black Lives Matter; Some Call For Ice Cream Boycott

BURLINGTON, Vt. (CBS) –Ben & Jerry’s declared “Black lives matter” on Thursday, garnering praise from many of their fans while others said they’d never buy their ice cream again.

The Vermont-based company said in a statement that “systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time,” and it was time to take a stand.

“We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats,” Ben & Jerry’s said.

The strong stance was applauded by most people on the company’s Facebook page.

But some opposed to the Black Lives Matter cause said they’d stop buying their ice cream.

“I am officially boycotting the overpriced Ben and Jerry’s ice cream,” another commenter wrote.

Ben & Jerry’s says it decided to make this statement “as the list of unarmed Black Americans killed by law enforcement officers grow longer and longer,” and explained why saying “All Lives Matter” isn’t adequate.

“All lives do matter. But all lives will not matter until Black lives matter,” Ben & Jerry’s said.

The company is no stranger to taking political stances.

Previously, the ice cream maker has released products to celebrate gay marriage and raise awareness about global warming.

No surprise. (((Agents))) of chaos at work around the clock. B&J should have checked the NFL ratings drop before getting their commie groove on. I hope they go out of business.

You just lost me as a customer and I buy multiple flavors of your ice cream weekly. Apparently your a racist company. Black Lives Matter is a terrorist group. Blacks who have been killing each other on the streets matter. But the White cops they shoot and/or kill don’t when Blacks don’t stop or pull out a gun? Michael Brown robbed a store, refused to follow an order to stop walking in the street, attacked a cop and tried to seal his gun. I guess your anti-anybody not Black forget those things. Shame on you!

You all realize that this company appears to be run as a small local company in New England, but is actually owned by the Unilever Corporation, being run from the Netherlands and Britain. This company has been criticized by Greenpeace for deforestation by purchasing Palm Oil from suppliers who are destroying the Rain Forest. According to them, they are now buying only from companies that use sustainable practices.

For years, they also purchased all their paper for packaging from another Indonesia company that was considered a ‘forest criminal’.

In Israel, it was known that the company was pulling cereal from the shelves and destroying it but refused to give an explanation. It was rumored to be due to Salmonella and the Israeli public stopped purchasing Unilever products due to their efforts to cover up what was going on. During this crisis the Health Manager of Israel threatened to pull their license. Sure enough much later, an investigation determined there was salmonella in some of their cereal and that they had been lying about it.

They’ve also been accused of dumping mercury in India.

More support for a racist cause. All Lives matter and no race is excluded. Black Lives Matter is another racist group doing a great job dividing people by race and turning back any progress that has been made. No More Ben and Jerry’s for me as I do not support racism.

Go into your local market, get to the freezer section, and take all the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream out and throw it on the floor. Destroy it all.
