Lawrence Football Field Destroyed By Festival Will Cost $875,000 To Replace

LAWRENCE (CBS) – The Lawrence High School football field, left destroyed by a festival over the weekend, is going to cost almost $900,000 to replace.

Mayor Dan Rivera says the field is beyond repair after mountains of empty beer cans, bottles, and food were left behind after the one-day Brazilian festival.

"We're disgusted, and just shocked that this would be left this way," Rivera said on Monday.

The worst damage is shards of glass buried in the artificial turf.

Rivera has asked to borrow $875,000 from the City Council to pay for the field.

Lawyers for the city are planning to meet with the company behind the event.
