'Never Apologize For The Sounds Of Freedom!' Residents React To Base's Apology For F-15 Noise

CHICOPEE (CBS) – The Westover Air Reserve Base in western Massachusetts is saying sorry about all the noise resulting from some recent early morning F-15 activity, but local residents won't hear of it.

"Never apologize for the sounds of freedom!!!" one Facebook commenter writes. "God Bless America and THANK YOU Westover Air Reserve Base for all you do."

The Springfield Republican reported this week that there has been a flood of complaints about the fighter jets waking people up at 5 a.m. or earlier.

On Monday, the Air Force base took to Facebook to explain that the F-15s are "conducting real-world missions, not training" and have to take off very early to make it to their next destination in time.

"We apologize if this creates any inconvenience for you," the base said.

More than 250 have replied to the Facebook post to say it's no inconvenience at all.

One person said it was the "coolest sound ever to wake up to!" and other neighbors said they came to the same conclusion.

The air base said it expects a few more of these supposed inconveniences throughout the week.
