Patriots Reportedly Signing DL John Hughes

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots really like adding former Cleveland Browns to their roster.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Pats are signing former Cleveland defensive tackle John Hughes. A third-round pick out of Cincinnati in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-2, 320-pound Hughes recorded 52 total tackles to go with 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 52 career games (10 starts) for the Browns.

He signed a four-year, $14.4 million contract extension with Cleveland in March of 2015, but that deal was terminated by the Browns last week. Hughes, once viewed as the leader of Cleveland's defensive line, missed several weeks of training camp this year with a personal issue and saw limited snaps in Cleveland's first two games of the season.

He now joins a Patriots roster that includes three other former members of the Browns in linebacker Barkevious Mingo, defensive end Jabaal Sheard and running back Dion Lewis.

Hughes will take the roster spot left vacant by the release of defensive tackle Anthony Johnson.
