Fall River Man Sentenced To Prison For Cutting Off Another Man's Finger

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to prison for cutting off another man's finger.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn says 43-year-old John Soares, of Fall River, was sentenced Friday to 10 to 15 years behind bars. Soares was convicted by a jury earlier this month of mayhem and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Prosecutors say it happened March 28, 2012, after an employee at Columbia Towing in Fall River was accused by his employer of stealing money from the business. He was ordered to write a confession, but he refused.

Soares arrived soon after and spoke with the management before bringing the man into a garage, where Soares used a pair of pipe cutters to remove the man's right pinky finger. Soares then left, taking the finger. It was never recovered.
