Report: Patriots Believe Garoppolo Has 'Chance To Be Ready' For Week 4

BOSTON (CBS) -- Three days was far too quick of a turnaround for Jimmy Garoppolo to be ready for Thursday night against the Houston Texans. But the Patriots quarterback may be able to return before the end of Tom Brady's suspension, after all.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Friday afternoon that the Patriots "believe" that Garappolo has a "chance to be ready" to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 at Gillette Stadium but the situation is "still too early to say for sure."

Prior reports indicated that the Patriots were putting pressure on Garoppolo to be ready as soon as possible. Garoppolo suffered a grade 2 sprain of the AC joint in his right shoulder during the second quarter against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2, after which rookie Jacoby Brissett came in to relieve him.

Brissett reportedly suffered a thumb injury during the game Thursday night. The nature and severity of the injury aren't fully known at this time, as reports are varying, but all reports indicate that Brissett will not be able to play when the Patriots take on the Bills on Sunday, Oct. 2. This now leaves open the possibility of Garoppolo returning and playing through his AC sprain.

Regardless of who's starting, the Patriots are now likely to add a quarterback. The team is currently weighing its options, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
