NightSide - How Did Law Enforcement Miss Him?

BOSTON (CBS) - Ahmad Rahami is accused of carrying out the bombings that took place in New York City and New Jersey last weekend. Upon a closer look, it turns out that Rahami's own father had allegedly called him a "terrorist", and had told authorities that his son was associating with bad people. Rahami had also taken several extended trips to Pakistan over the last few years. Authorities conducted an assessment of Rahami in 2014, but did not turn up anything that connected him with terrorist organizations or activities. This is not the first time an attack was executed by someone authorities had already investigated and cleared. The individuals responsible for the Orlando shooting and the Boston marathon bombing had also been investigated by counterterrorism officials, but authorities could not establish a positive link in those cases either. Why are we struggling to identify those that have been radicalized? What can we do to make the process more effective? Do you have faith in our nation's counterterrorism forces?
