Enhanced Security Planned For Thursday Night Football At Gillette Stadium

FOXBORO (CBS) – Massachusetts State Police will step up security at Gillette Stadium for Thursday Night Football following a series of violent incidents across the country over the weekend.

State authorities will be monitoring the latest developments from the bombings in New York and New Jersey, as well as a Minnesota mall stabbing spree and police shootings in Philadelphia.

State Police say they have not found any connection between the bombings suspect and Massachusetts, but are continuing to investigate databases and social media.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan, was taken into custody Monday morning.

"Meanwhile, the State Police will enhance security operations for this Thursday's Patriots game at Gillette Stadium, as we did for yesterday's game," authorities said in a statement.

The New England Patriots are set to kick off against the Houston Texans in Foxboro for the nationally televised game on CBS at 8:25 p.m.

Troopers will also be adding patrols at public transit stations and transportation centers in the region.
