Coast Guard Saves 3 After Boat Runs Aground In Merrimack River

NEWBURYPORT (CBS) – The U.S. Coast Guard saved three people after their boat ran aground in the Merrimack River Friday morning.

The 32-foot pleasure craft Warthog ran aground, possibly hitting a sand bar, around 7:30 a.m. off of Joppa Flats in Newburyport.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat, took all three people off the grounded boat and brought them to shore.

Two of the people were brought to Anna Jacques Hospital where they're being treated for cuts and possible fractures, according to the Coast Guard.

The boat was towed to shore a short time later.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
