Julian Edelman Reportedly Fined $26k For Hit On Defenseless Player

BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots receiver Julian Edelman delivered a big hit in New England's Week 1 win over Arizona, and was hit with a big fine because of it.

Edelman was reportedly fined $26,000 on Thursday for a hit on a defenseless player, a fine that he plans to appeal, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

The hit in question is likely the one Edelman delivered on Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon in the first quarter on a screen play:

Patriots running back James White gained 21 yards on the play, and no flag was thrown by officials.

That wasn't the only crushing blow Edelman delivered on the Cardinals on Sunday night. The receiver caught all seven passes that went his way for 66 yards in the victory.
