Air National Guard Jet ‘Inadvertently’ Drops Flares Over New Hampshire Town

HANCOCK, N.H. (CBS) – An Air National Guard fighter jet accidentally dropped several flares while flying over a New Hampshire town on a training mission.

Hancock Police said Tuesday afternoon that fighter jets had been seen over the town and they dropped something that police said looking like fireworks in the air.

Initially police were not certain what the items were, but planned to check with the military to find out.

Barnes Air National Guard reported that an F-15C jet from the 104th Fighter Wing, based in Westfield, inadvertently dropped “a small number of countermeasure flares” during a target intercept training.

No one was injured during the incident.
