Hitchhiking Bride Gets Lift From Good Samaritan

BROOKLINE, N.H. (CBS) – When things went awry on Angelique Arsenault’s wedding day, the bride decided to take matters into her own hands.

Arsenault, a Brookline, New Hampshire resident, says her limo got a flat tire on the way to their venue in Milford.

“It didn’t even seem real at the time, but it happened,” Angelique told WBZ-TV.

Angelique had waited 11 years to marry her groom, but on a breathtaking Saturday afternoon, she quickly realized she was going to have to wait longer, because on the way to the ceremony, just five minutes from her house, the limo carrying her bridesmaids and family abruptly pulled over.

“The limo driver gets out of the car, I’m like, ‘it’s fine. Maybe he just hit something,’” recalled Katie Queen, the maid of honor. “He gets back in, opens up the back window, and says, ‘you’ve a flat tire.’”

The champagne helped.

“We just laughed about it,” Angelique said.

Russell Hill Road in Brookline, New Hampshire isn’t exactly well-traveled.

“We actually had cars driving by us and they just took pictures and left and then finally someone actually stopped to see if we needed a ride,” Angelique said.

The driver who stopped was a man named Jay. He had a car full of kids but he was determined to help. So he dropped them off, returned, and asked the bride, “where to?”

He declined an on camera interview, but said he was just happy to help.

The Mile Away venue wasn’t a mile away. It was seven rural miles away, where Jarrod Dunning was patiently waiting and worrying.

Thirty minutes late, Angelique and her bridal party arrived.

Now on her honeymoon, she realizes Jay didn’t just save her big day, he was the punctuation. “It pretty much made the whole day,” Angelique said. “Everyone was laughing all night about it. It’s going to be a story we’ll remember forever.”

Great advice to everyone today. When you come across a situation where help is needed, put the camera down and help the people in need.

No spare? Man stops, drives away to drop off kids and returns and the limo is still there with a flat? This must be the new normal man. Can’t change a tire. Useless.

Maybe he is an older man? Maybe he was just an employee and not wanting to ruin his suit getting on the ground to change a flat? Maybe it was a silly Hummer type limo where the tires weigh 150 pounds?

Older man, take a hike you fool, I’m 69 and I can and do change tires, and one hell of a lot more. If some twit is able to do the basics, like tire changing, he/she shouldn’t be driving a limo, or any other vehicle with paying passengers

This happened at my wedding. The limo my wife was in broke down on a California freeway (this was before cell phones). The church was about twelve miles away. My fiance stood out on the freeway with her thumb out. Fortunately, a kind stranger picked her up and took her to a pay phone so she could call the limo service to send out another limo. She then called the church to inform us of the delay. We got married two hours late, but we’ve been happy together for 28 years.

Jarrod you had better treasure her and take good care of her. She is a special woman.

  6. What, no cell phones in the whole bunch? Couldn’t the limo company have sent out a replacement? Most limo companies have some way to communicate with the drivers. While it does make for a good story to tell later on in life, I’m a little bit surprised that no one in the bridal party had a phone.
