Boomer Esiason: Another 16-0 Season For Patriots?
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England got off to a great start to their 2016, beating the heavily-favored Arizona Cardinals with a dramatic 23-21 win on Sunday Night Football.
The spotlight wasn't too bright for Jimmy Garoppolo, who went 24-of-33 for 264 yards and a touchdown. Boomer Esiason of CBS' The NFL Today and WFAN joined Toucher & Rich on Monday morning to discuss New England's season-opening victory, and made a pretty interesting prediction for the rest of the season.
"If you ask me what last night showed everybody in the NFL, and it's something we already knew, Bill Belichick and his coaching staff are the greatest staff in the NFL right now," Esiason said of New England's win without Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and most of their offensive line. "Most of us, the conventional wisdom would tell you the Patriots would probably lose the game. If there wasn't a botched snap at the end, maybe they do lose that game. But that's the NFL. Once again, under Bill Belichick's watch, Josh McDaniels' and Matt Patricia's game plan, they shut down one of the best teams in the NFL. I didn't think they'd win the game [last night], I thought they'd win the next three games at home with Jimmy Garoppolo, and then Tom Brady would go 12-0. So it looks like another 16-0 season.
"I think when Brady comes back they're going to go 12-0. If you know Tom Brady, the fact of the matter is this guy is the greatest quarterback of all time and he is going to be just chomping at the bit to get back on the field and prove to Roger Goodell and everyone else he's still the best, even at 39," added Boomer. "I would not doubt for one minute he'll be in tip-top shape, ready to go and they'll go on another run."
