Phantom Gourmet: Loco Taqueria And Oyster Bar In South Boston
SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) -- Some of the best meals are made for sharing--and if you're crazy about having a good time with great food, then you need to go to Loco.
"When me and my buddies want to go out and eat, the first two things that come up are, 'Let's go grab some tacos,' or 'Let's go get oysters.' And we figured, 'What the hell? Let's try it together.' It's the two best things to eat," says owner Mike Shaw.
So at Loco Taqueria and Oyster Bar in South Boston, Shaw and his partners have created a spot focusing on two deliciously different flavors--tacos and oysters--because both are supremely shareable.
"It's great food to eat at like a group pace, you know?" says Shaw. "Where you can grab a dozen oysters, you can grab five or six tacos and just kind of hang. Have a couple of margaritas and enjoy the night."
So the raw bar is always filled with a variety of oysters. Plus there are more composed plates, like tuna crudo tostadas.
"It's super easy to eat," Shaw says. "It's like a loaded potato chip."
On the Mexican side of the menu there are tacos, of course, as well as salsas, guacs, loaded wings, and spicy queso dip studded with crumbled chorizo.
"Queso dip was kind of one of those things, that you gotta have it," Shaw said.
And you'll be doing all that snacking and sharing in a relaxed room with big windows, exposed beams, and a massive bar strung up with lights, making Loco feel more like a back porch than a restaurant and the perfect spot to escape the craziness of everyday life.
"Totally laid back, we wanna slow the pace down," says Shaw. "Boston's a really fast city, and when you walk in here, we don't care where it takes you as long as it takes you away from here."
