Maine Officials Release Exclusive 'Interview' With Popular Snake Wessie

WESTBROOK (CBS) – Wessie fever continues to captivate Maine residents, with the City of Westbrook scoring an exclusive "interview" with the elusive 10-foot snake that has grabbed national headlines.

The city released a light-hearted tourism ad on Friday as Shannon Moss, with the job title "serious journalist" in the video, asks the snake why he chose to visit Westbrook.

In recent months several sightings of a 10-foot snake have been reported in Westbrook. A 12-foot snake skin later identified as belonging to an anaconda was found in Riverbank Park.

The city has embraced the elusive snake, with a local brewery creating t-shirts to go along with their Wessie beer.

In the tourism ad released Friday, Wessie is "interviewed" with his identity concealed.

So what brought Wessie to Westbrook?

"Perhaps it's the delicious people, I mean delicious dining," Moss jokes in the video.

Wessie names some of his favorite businesses and locations in town, adding that he's enjoyed the residents embracing him.

"I'm a microcosm of the city. People are just starting to find out about me, and they're starting to find out about Westbrook. And they're figuring out wow, we're both kind of really cool."
