BOSTON (CBS) – Four of eight former Hannaford locations being converted to Big Y stores opened Saturday for business.

Facilities that were previously Hannford Supermarkets in Milford, Easton, Norwood and Kingston officially became Big Y on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. as they opened for business.

Next week the transition from Hannaford to Big Y will be completed in four more locations –Quincy, Norwell, Peabody and Saugus.

The Springfield-based supermarket chain said 1,100 employees have been hired, including nearly the entire Hannaford management team, for the new stores.

Once all eight locations are open, Big Y will have 79 locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
