Toddler Burned After Falling Into Fire Pit At Birthday Party

BILLERICA (CBS) – A 2-year-old girl suffered second and third-degree burns after falling into a fire pit Saturday evening in Billerica, officials said.

The fire department said the toddler went into the fire during a birthday party at Bridle Road at about 6 p.m. She suffered burns on her hands, stomach and thighs.

Partygoers reacted quickly and put the girl in the shower as they waited for help to come.

The girl was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, and then Shriners Hospital For Children, where she was in stable condition.

40 years as a first responder and front line worker in health care. Burns are among the worst things to deal with, especially 2nd & 3rd degree burns to a 2 yr. old child. There should have been a fence around that pit, and 1 to 1 supervision by an adult. The little one will receive excellent care at Shriners but faces many procedures that will be painful. The adults who were at this party as a partial act of penance/contrition, should go to Shriners and ask if they can donate blood to help with treating the little girl and the other burn patients there and Mass. General.
