Patriots Place Dion Lewis And Sebastian Vollmer On PUP List, Make Several Cuts

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots had to get trim their roster down to 75 players on Tuesday, and they did so without any major surprises.

The biggest news from Tuesday was the placement of running back Dion Lewis on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning he'll miss the first six weeks of the season at minimum. ESPN's Field Yates reported the news.

The news was not surprising, after it came out last week that Lewis needed a second surgery on his knee, which he tore last year in November. Lewis was previously on the active/PUP list.

The team also placed Sebastian Vollmer on the reserve/PUP list, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The cuts themselves did not include any big names. Keavon Milton, Steven Scheu and Ramon Humber were all reported to be cut on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Patriots released Terrance Knighton and placed Tre' Jackson on the reserve/PUP list.

The Patriots will play the Giants on Thursday and then will have to trim the roster to 53 players on Saturday.
