David Ortiz Ties Jimmie Foxx On All-Time List With 534th Home Run [VIDEO]
BOSTON (CBS) -- David Ortiz's incredible final season in the major leagues continued Sunday night against the Kansas City Royals. The Red Sox designated hitter smacked a solo home run deep to right-center field in the fourth inning Sunday night against the Kansas City Royals, the 534th of his career.
The blast tied Ortiz with former Red Sox great Jimmie Foxx for 18th on the all-time home run list.
The 40-year-old Ortiz sits just two home runs shy of Yankees legend Mickey Mantle for 17th on the all-time list, where he will likely finish his career. Ortiz is still 14 home runs behind Hall-of-Famer Mike Schmidt (548 career homers) for 16th all-time.
According to MLB StatCast, Ortiz's home run had an exit velocity of over 108 mph and a projected distance of 413 feet. Not bad for a 40-year-old in his final season.
On the season, Ortiz is slashing .319/.407/.633 with 31 home runs, 101 RBIs, and a league-leading 1.040 OPS.
