Bill Belichick Opts To Not Weigh In On Colin Kaepernick's National Anthem Protest
BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is an American through-and-through. He grew up in Annapolis, where his father was an assistant coach and scout for the Navy football team, and he's always expressed a profound appreciation for his country.
So, it was only natural that with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick making national news this week for sitting down during the national anthem, Belichick would be asked about it.
Equally as predictable was Belichick's choice to not issue a comment.
"Yeah, we're really focused on what we do, getting ready for the Giants, improving our football team. We're not here to talk about political commentary and ideology and all of that," Belichick said.
Belichick rarely ever speaks about his own players outside of the context of football, let alone a player employed by another team, so his non-answer was to be expected.
In February of 2015, Belichick was booed during the national anthem, presumably by Seahawks fans, prior to kickoff of Super Bowl XLIX.
