Attorney Charged In Fatal Crash Outside Brockton Courthouse

BROCKTON (CBS) – A defense attorney who ran over and killed a man while attempting to back into a parking space near the Brockton Courthouse in June has been charged with motor vehicle homicide.

Valerie Semensi was backing her Mercedes SUV into a parking space on June 1 when she hit 66-year-old John Buckley and dragged him several feet.

While attempting to back into the parking space, Semensi accelerated her SUV in reverse over a curb and grass, through a driveway, up a hill, through bushes and over a sidewalk before hitting Buckley.

District Attorney Timothy Cruz said Semensi was "distraught" at the accident scene and stayed to speak with police.

After a hearing on Monday, a clerk magistrate issued a criminal complaint against Semensi on one charge of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

Semensi's license remains suspended as a result of the crash.
