Bruins Reportedly Among Teams Meeting With Free Agent Jimmy Vesey

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Jimmy Vesey watch is on.

Vesey is now officially a free agent, and is in Boston chatting with several NHL clubs about signing a contract. The good news is the Boston Bruins are a part of the pack of teams who will reportedly meet with the former Harvard star and Charlestown native:

Last year's Hobey Baker Award winner officially became a free agent at midnight on Tuesday. The forward was drafted by Nashville in the third round of the 2012 NHL draft but did not sign with the club after finishing his senior year at Harvard in March, opting for the chance to pick his team come August 15. The Predators traded his rights to the Sabres for a third-round pick in June, but Buffalo couldn't get a deal done with Vesey and his camp adamant about hitting free agency.

Now that they're there, Vesey is reportedly on the wish list of at least six teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Vesey's agent, Peter Fish, told The Boston Globe that they're in no rush to sign, but expects a deal to be reached in the very near future.

"It's certainly not going to be tomorrow," said Fish. "I would say the earliest may be Friday or Saturday, but I wouldn't expect it to drag on much into the following week."

Vesey, 23, scored 80 goals in his collegiate career at Harvard and finished with 144 points. In his senior year, he netted 24 goals to go with 22 assists.
