Patriots' Brock Vereen Retires At Age 23

BOSTON (CBS) -- Another professional football player is retiring young.

Brock Vereen, who was in Patriots training camp this summer for his third NFL season, retired on Monday.

Vereen, who retired two days shy of his 24th birthday, is the brother of former Patriots running back Shane Vereen.

Brock was a defensive back, playing in 16 games with the Chicago Bears in 2014 and then three more in 2015 before being released. Originally a fourth-round draft pick, he joined the Patriots practice squad last November.

Vereen played collegiately at the University of Minnesota, and he was named to the First Team All Big-Ten Team in 2013 as a senior. In the NFL, he recorded one interception, one pass defended, one forced fumble and 39 total tackles (30 solo, nine assists).
