Officers Giving Sobriety Test Nearly Hit By Another Alleged Drunk Driver

WELLFLEET (CBS) – An allegedly drunk driver slammed into two parked police cruisers Saturday night – vehicles belonging to officers who were in the middle of making another alcohol-related arrest.

Wellfleet police said an officer had pulled over a gray Toyota Sienna at 1600 Route 6 just before midnight. Five minutes later, authorities said a gray Hyundai sedan headed north struck two police cruisers at the scene and rolled over.

No officers were hurt, but the two people in the Hyundai were hospitalized.

The Toyota Sienna driver was identified as Kelley Tripp, a 46-year-old from West Roxbury. The charges she's facing include operating under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment while operating under the influence of alcohol.

The Hyundai driver, 33-year-old Juan Fontanez, of Providence, Rhode Island, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

The incident closed Route 6 for about three hours.
