Garoppolo Beats Brady In Friendly Training Camp Game

BOSTON (CBS) -- We already know there's no way Jimmy Garoppolo will beat out Tom Brady for New England's starting QB job once his four-game run to start the season is over.

But the backup did beat No. 12 in something on Thursday. Brady and Garoppolo participated in a friendly game after practice at Gillette Stadium, with each quarterback trying to throw a ball into a barrel from about 30 yards.

After about 15 minutes of attempts, Jimmy G got the best of TB12. As Howe noted in his Tweet, Brady got rid of the competition a few years back after then-backup Brian Hoyer beat him (and took some of his money), so we'll see if the friendly game is still around next training camp. But it looks like the NFL offices aren't the only ones taking some cash from Brady this season.

As for the meaningful passes on Thursday, Garoppolo outperformed Brady on that front as well. He completed all 10 of his attempts during 11-on-11 drills, while Brady went 6-of-10 with an interception.

So maybe it isn't as crazy as we once thought to ask Bill Belichick about his Week 5 starter (though we wouldn't really recommend it, either).

It's important to note that once again, Brady was the last player to leave the field on Thursday, and for the second straight day he put in work after the practice session.
