Ford Recall Covers 830,000 Vehicles With Faulty Door Latches

DETROIT (CBS) – Hundreds of thousands of Ford drivers are being notified about a scary potential problem: faulty doors.

According to The Associated Press, the automaker says a spring in the side door latches can break, allowing the doors to open while the vehicle is moving.

The recall impacts about 830,000 vehicles, including some 2013 to 2014 Ford Escape SUVs and C-Max cars, and 2012 to 2015 Focus cars. Drivers of 2014 to 2016 Ford Transit Connect vans, Ford Mustang sports cars and 2015 Lincoln MKC Suvs are also being alerted.

The safety issue is more of a concern in states in the south and west that see hot weather and lots of sun exposure.

So far, Ford is only aware of one crash and one injury that could be related to the recall.

Ford dealers will repair broken latches for free.
