Fans Excited As Patriots Begin Training Camp

FOXBORO (CBS) - Thousands of Pats fans braved 90 degree heat to get a chance to be up close and personal with their heroes as training camp opened on Thursday.

Gillette Stadium was packed as the gates opened early and the sprint was on for a good spot.

Topic number one? You guessed it, how will they do without Tom Brady for four games? NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not a popular guy here in Massachusetts.

One fan said, "he won't show his face over here, you kidding me? They'll be throwing tomatoes and eggs at him."

Everyone is hoping Tom Brady's backup and now temporary starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, can get the job done but there's still bitterness over Brady's penalty.

"I think it's kind of overkill actually, I don't think he did anything," said one boy who came with his family.

Another fan thinks that when Brady returns in game five, it could be trouble for the rest of the NFL. "He's going to come back with a vengeance so everybody better watch out."

After practice, many of the players treated the fans to some autographs. Despite the heat, Patriots followers say it was all worth it.

"You know just watching Tom Brady and finding Bill Belichick, you know it's like a 'Where's Waldo' sort of thing trying to pick them all out it's so much fun."

WBZ will go one on one with Coach Belichick and new wide receiver Chris Hogan on Friday at 7pm as part of the first Patriots All Access of the new season.
