Parents Want Answers After 7-Year-Old Boy Dies At Boston Summer Camp

BOSTON (CBS) - There was uneasiness as parents picked up their children from a city camp in South Boston mindful of the tragic death of 7-year-old Kyzr Willis who went missing from a day program just a few miles away.

Aminah Moore, who was at the Condon Elementary School to pick up her own son, says there are so many questions. "It made me uneasy because I didn't have all the facts," she said. "I dropped him off today and I had no idea what happened."

The Curley Community Center, where the young boy was part of a drop-in program, reopened to adults only on Thursday with youth programs on hold for a few days.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how Kyzr slipped away from at least two dozen counselors and eight lifeguards. He was found about 20 yards offshore after a search that lasted for hours.

Time unaccounted for is now the subject of both a city and police investigation. A 911 call was made at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday and Kyzr Willis was last seen a half hour earlier.

Parents say it's been a difficult teachable moment for their children. "I reinforce with my child to stay with the group, not to wander off, basic safety concerns," said Aminah Moore.

Boston police will only say they are looking at everything in their investigation, while the city is examining protocols at its summer programs and has placed the director at the Curley Community Center on administrative leave. It's now a wait for answers.
