More Bones, Clothing Found On National Grid Property In Everett

EVERETT (CBS) – For the second time this month, bones and clothing have been discovered on a National Grid property in Everett. What investigators found Thursday could help them identify the body.

On the property, National Grid brings dirt from other construction sites and cleans it up to re-use it. But during that process, investigators believe a front-end loader inadvertently dug up a shallow grave.

It was the operator of the heavy equipment pictured above who again discovered human bones and clothing.

"It's scary," said Eder Fagundes who lives nearby. "What else can you say, you know, how many more are they going to find? Is it one body, is it two? Did they use to bury people over there?"

By mid-afternoon on Thursday investigators seemed to believe that these were simply the missing parts of a woman's skeleton found less than 100 feet away on July 7.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said, "the remains are now going to be taken from this scene to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner where there will be further examination and testing that will confirm that."

Forensic testing indicates that the remains are likely those of a white female between the ages of 25 and 50 who was somewhere between 5'1 and 5'9. She was wearing a white long sleeve t-shirt, black sweatpants, and size 10 boots.

"What we are most concerned with is finding the people who knew and loved this woman and having her identified and then once we have an identification, we can begin working back through that individual's life," said Ryan.

The medical examiner's best guess is that the remains were dumped here at least a year ago.

By late afternoon on Thursday investigators had a front-end loader sifting through the dirt and gravel which was then hand raked with the hope of exposing more evidence. With no official cause of death, the District Attorney is calling this suspicious.

"I don't know what to say I'm just scared, you know, because you don't know who did it," says Fagundes.

Prosecutors say the victim had unique characteristics that might help identify her. Those characteristics include a plate in her left leg to repair a very harsh break, two broken bones in her nose which might indicate she had plastic surgery, as well as a substantial amount of dental work.

Investigators are still on the scene and police are urging anyone with any information based off of these recent findings to come forward.
