Accused Child Rapist Appears In Court 10 Years After Indictment

BOSTON (CBS) - An accused child rapist who just returned to the United States is now being held on $100,000 bail, 10 years after he was indicted in Revere.

Rony Vasquez, 42, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday in Suffolk Superior Court on four counts of child rape.

Police found Vasquez in a car with an 11-year-old girl in Dashwood Park in Revere on June 18, 2006.

According to prosecutor Janine D'Amico, Vasquez admitted to officers he was having sex with the girl, told them she was his girlfriend and that they had been having sexual relations for months.

D'Amico said Vasquez was aware the girl was just 11. Police said the child initially told them she was 17, that she loved Vasquez and they planned to marry one day.

But Vasquez was deported to Guatemala before he faced child rape charges in Superior Court.

He recently applied for a visa and flew to Houston where he was taken into custody July 12.

Vasquez's attorney had no comment Monday.

Vasquez will be back in court in September.
