'It's A Miracle': NH Woman Survives After Tree Flattens Car

MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) - "Somebody was watching over me, definitely," expressed Carol Temmallo.

Temmallo still chokes up at the thought of how her car was flattened on Monday afternoon by a fallen tree.

"I'm a very lucky girl. Yup," explained Temmallo as she started to cry. "Just talking about it and then you think back on it sometimes it's just hard to believe that it happened."

The 65-year-old was driving to her Merrimack, New Hampshire home from a meeting in Nashua. She was about a quarter of a mile away traveling on Daniel Webster Highway when part of a rotted pine tree snapped and fell on her Honda Accord.

"A huge noise came through the car and then all of a sudden, there were tree branches inside my windshield," described Temmallo. "My head was somehow in this area where it couldn't get to me. It got to me as far as landing but not landing directly where it could really do more damage."

She hit the brakes and remained conscious. She said she thought about her son and three grandchildren. "They all flashed through my head."

She was rushed to Catholic Medical Center where doctors placed seven staples in her head. She also had back pain along with bruises on her face and leg.

The tree has since been cut down. The retired sales manager has been spending her days recovering and catching up on emails, trying to keep busy and move past her miracle.

"It's the scariest thing I've ever been through really. It was amazingly scary and I can't believe I survived it to tell you the truth. It's a miracle that I survived it."
