Man Held On $25K Bail In Millis Robbery, Police Chase

MILLIS (CBS) -- A man police say attempted to rob a home and then dragged the homeowner several feet with his car was arraigned Wednesday.

Daniel Coyle, 32, pleaded not guilty to several charges, including assault. He was ordered held on $25,000 bail.

The homeowner told WBZ-TV's Anna Meiler he caught Coyle inside his Irving Street house Tuesday afternoon in the process of trying to rob him. He called police on Coyle, who ran out of the house and jumped into a car.

He said he reached into Coyle's car to grab his keys, but Coyle accellerated, dragging him 30 feet.

Police said Coyle led them on a chase through Holliston, Sherborn, and Medfield before they arrested him in a CVS, using a Taser to subdue him.

The homeowner was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Millis Police Chief Keith Edison said the situation could have been a lot worse--and he's reminding people to never go after the suspect.

"I understand that might be the instinct of the homeowner, but it was a dangerous situation and he put himself in a position where he could have been seriously injured," Edison said. "Thankfully he wasn't. We would ask if anything like that happens, the homeowner should get to a safe place and call us immediately."

The district attorney's office argued Wednesday that Coyle posed a risk to society, as he was also on probation for a masked armed robbery.
