Woman Struck By Garbage Truck In Milford

MILFORD (CBS) -- A woman was seriously injured Wednesday when she was struck by a garbage truck while crossing a Milford street.

Police said the 69-year-old woman was struck at West and West Maple Streets Wednesday afternoon.

She was taken to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester with a "very serious" injury to her right foot.

They said she was conscious and alert in the ambulance.

A witness told WBZ-TV's Christina Hager that a nurse who was passing by stopped to tie a towel around the woman's leg. He said the woman told him she was walking to church when she was hit.

She appeared to have been walking without paying attention to the street, police said. They believe she walked into the side of the truck as it was turning the corner.

Police said there were no eyewitnesses to the crash.
