Felger: Microchips In Footballs 'Top 15 Dumbest Things I've Ever Heard'

BOSTON (CBS) -- The NFL is thinking about putting microchips in footballs to help determine if the should narrow the goalposts.

That sounds like a lot of work to get an answer the NFL pretty much already has. Michael Felger calls the idea one of the "top 15 dumbest things" he's ever heard.

"You need a computer chip to see where the ball is going? What are you... Are you kidding me? How much money are they spending? Bring [the uprights] in a couple of feet!" Felger proclaimed on Tuesday.

"Talk about overthinking the thing," Felger continued. "Should the NFL narrow their goal posts? Absolutely. Kicks have gotten too easy. Boy, do you have to suck or do you have to choke if you miss it.

"For decades, they would have an offensive lineman go and toe-jam the thing. The whole premise of the field goal was not meant to be once you cross the opposing 30, it's an automatic three points. I think it is broke," said Felger. "It's too easy. When the game was created there was no artificial surface or domes. These guys who kick in domes, it's ridiculous."
