Household Ingredient Helps Winchendon Firefighters Pull Off Purr-fect Rescue

WINCHENDON (CBS) -- Winchendon firefighters are getting some much deserved praise after pulling off what they're calling an "unusual animal rescue."

A one-year-old cat that found her way into the storm drain was attempting to get out when her head became wedged in the grate, according to the fire department.

"When we arrived the cat was barely breathing and moving as she was hanging from the grate," the department posted on Facebook.

They then asked the cat's owner who lived nearby to bring them dish soap.

"We slowly worked his head back into the grate and within a couple minutes we freed the cat," the department wrote.
