Police Up Security For Bastille Day Celebration In Back Bay

BOSTON (CBS) -- Despite the horrible attack in Nice, France, The French Cultural Center decided to go through with their plans to host Bastille Day celebration tonight in Boston.

In a statement on their website, Center officials said they were saddened by the "horrific event" but looked forward to welcoming "everyone" to celebrate.

One of the volunteers for the event, Cate Dill, told us "Just like in the states, if something happened on the 4th of July, we would want to keep things going."

There was extra security by Boston Police who parked huge dump trucks at both entrances of Marlboro Street in the Back Bay where the celebration is being held.

This was to prevent any vehicles come passing between Berkeley Street and Clarendon on Marlboro. There were also officers with long rifles and bomb sniffing dogs present earlier in the day.
