Man Suffers Heroin Overdose In Car With Child In Backseat

BEVERLY (CBS) -- Beverly police revived a man who overdosed on heroin in a car while a child was sitting in the back seat.

Police were called to the intersection of Rantoul and Elliott streets at 6:30 p.m. Monday where they found the man unconscious behind the wheel. Officers gave two doses of narcan to the man.

"I will never forget the police officers face when the man finally took a breath again," witness Brianna Sullivan posted on Facebook. "You could truly see the officer cared for this man and his child."

Sullivan said witnessing the officers save the man and child was a moving experience for her in light of what she called, a "discouraging week for police and all of humanity."

"So next time you want to talk poorly on police remember there are men and women out there that truly care for one another and do want to make the world a better place," Sullivan posted.

Police say one of the responding officers was stuck by a hypodermic needle that was found in the car.
